Sticking the Boot In

The The
With the base completed, the time has come to attach the football and the boots. The ball and boots were tried in different positions to see which was the most-pleasing arrangement.

The The
The boots were to be fixed to the baseboard with self-tapping screws into the studs. This meant drilling a pilot hole into each of them. The studs have a hard metal core which does not drill easily, but a little perseverance and the holes were done.

The The
The next problem was how to mark out where the baseboard needed drilling for the self-tapping screws. I solved the problem by making a transparent template from a piece of translucent sheet used to cover an old CD wallet. The translucent sheet was laid over the drilled studs and the hole positions marked on the sheet.

The The
The template was positioned (upside down) in the correct position and the holes were drilled through it and the baseboard. A new template was made of the other boot and the process repeated.

The The
The self-tapping screws were inserted into the holes…

…and screwed into the football studs clamping them to the baseboard.
